Remembering 9/11: Honoring the 343
On September 24, Five Alarm Charm had the honor of participating in the first 9/11 Memorial Climb held at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Maryland.
Hosted by the Paul Davis Restoration team in partnership with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the event brought members of the fire service and our community together to remember the 343 firefighters and first responders who were lost on September 11, 2001.
We were fortunate to be able to sponsor this event and to see a 9/11 Memorial Climb take place here in our hometown of Frederick. Being there with so many people who came together to remember those who were lost was deeply moving.
What stood out throughout the day was seeing people of different ages and from so many different walks of life come together for the same purpose. Members of the fire service, families, businesses, and community members all climbed side by side in remembrance. It was a beautiful thing to witness and a reminder that the memories of September 11 continue to be carried forward.
As part of the climb, Zach, one of the owners of Five Alarm Charm, climbed in memory of Captain Brian C. Hickey of Rescue 4 in Queens, New York. Over the past few years, we have developed close relationships with members of Rescue 4 through conferences and events within the fire service community, making the opportunity to honor one of their own particularly special to us.
We were also honored to see Sara Laird of Phoenix Advocates take part in the climb and share her words as a featured speaker. Watching her climb alongside so many others and then speak about the significance of remembering made the day even more meaningful.
This is something we never want to forget. It is something we will always want to support. The 343 should always be remembered, and we are proud to stand alongside the fire service community in continuing to honor their lives and their legacy.
We are grateful to everyone who came together to make Frederick’s first 9/11 Memorial Climb possible and to all those who continue to keep the memories of September 11 alive.
Most of all, we remember the 343.
And we will never forget.
